Safety Net Recognized with 2014 Prosperity Award

Michigan Works! Association Prosperity Award Safety Net has been selected as one of the 2014 Michigan Works! Association Prosperity Award winners for the northwest region. This award recognizes significant accomplishments within the community and showcases an organization’s economic impact as a result of newly created jobs, transformational training, and effective talent pipeline development.

Northwest Michigan Council of Governments and Northwest Michigan Works! Inc. nominated Safety Net for the award because of their ability to attract, train and retain high quality IT talent while forging strategic partnerships for employee recruitment and development. The Prosperity Awards were presented on June 4 in Lansing.

Safety Net is actively engaged in the local IT community by hosting the Traverse IT Happy Hour and leading the Geeks Do Lunch group. Both events are helping to build a network of local technology professionals. Safety Net has also supported Northwestern Michigan College (NMC) in designing an IT apprenticeship, regularly exhibited at the Michigan Works! and NMC Career Fairs, and has participated in the Governor’s Economic Summits (state and regional) to attract talent to our region.

“We are honored to be recognized with this award. Safety Net is committed to developing IT talent in Michigan,” said Safety Net Principal Beth Holmes-Bozung. “I would encourage employers to explore partnering with Michigan Works! and utilizing its many resources” she added.
